CLYRO is a 'model village' in this year's round of the Powys Village of the Year.
Judges singled out the border village for the environment award after seeing its design statement.
There was praise too for Llangorse, last year's village of the year and winner of the young people award. Both receive £150.
Thanking the villages for their support, chairman of the judging panel, Gloria Jones Powell, said: "We were treated to some high quality project work, a village design statement from Clyro and a special holiday project for the young in Llangorse.
"They are just a few examples representing hours of planning and hard work."
There had been concern about staging the competition because of foot and mouth. Mrs Jones Powell said: "There were villages who felt they could not cope but others welcomed the opportunity to focus away from it."
