Westfields 2
Stratford Town 3
AN INJURY-hit Westfields suffered a first qualifying round exit from the FA Vase after a 3-2 home defeat by Midland Alliance league leaders Stratford Town.
Westfields were dealt a double blow prior to the start with both Matt Morris and Steve Higgins failing late fitness tests and then Paul Burton limping off within the first three minutes.
Scott Darroch opened the scoring for Stratford after four minutes but Westfields, having gone close on several occasions, eventually grabbed an equaliser in the 60th minute through Tim Powell after good work by Danny Phillips.
John Halford and Darroch, however, hit back to put Stratford 3-1 up in this end-to-end cup tie before Mark Hibbard reduced the arrears with a low shot.
Westfields had a last minute penalty appeal turned down and created a couple of good chances in the closing minutes but could not take the game into extra time.
