THE owner of a Herefordshire school denied five criminal charges when she appeared before a judge at Worcester Crown Court.
Ellen Hamer, aged 50, denied failing to keep proper business accounts for Grange House School, near Pembridge, after being declared bankrupt in December 1998.
She further denied failing to preserve accounting records and obtaining the services of a teacher by deception, by falsely representing she would be employed by Grange Dyslexia Trust when it did not exist.
Hamer, of West Street, Leominster, also pleaded not guilty to perjury when sworn as a witness under the Insolvency Act and denied removing property from a bankrupt estate in January 1999.
The defendant faces trial by jury and will appear at court again for a further directions hearing.
She was granted bail by Judge Michael Mott.
