NEW champions Kington shattered the Worcestershire County League Division 1 points record with an emphatic 112-run defeat of local rivals Bromyard.
Defending a competitive 228-6, Kington's outstanding Australian Craig Jones (8-41) and former Hereford seamer Adam Herbert (2-48) rushed out the hosts for just 116 in the 41st over to secure another accolade.
Jones' eight victims also propelled his season's tally to 72 wickets, taking him past the previous league record of 67, in what has proven a memorable season for the Herefordshire club.
Young opener Henry Langford and Steve Caple (15) added 53 for the second wicket before Langford (66) and Dave Exall (26) further laid the foundations with a valuable 56-run fourth wicket stand.
Derek Morgan clouted an unbeaten 42 and Graham Priday, 25 from just 19 deliveries, in a breezy 53-run partnership to lift the champions to a useful total. N Terry (2-46) and Nick Hitchings (2-49) were Bromyard's most successful bowlers.
Bromyard captain Ashley Bullock (54) got the home team's reply off to a sound start, taking the score to 51-0 before Kington struck. Kington snapped up the second wicket at 85 and then demolished the home club's innings. At one stage Jones had figures of 0-31, but captured eight wickets for just 10 runs in a devastating spell.
Steve Tomkins was the only other Bromyard batsman to reach double figures, making 12, before the hosts crashed to their fifth reverse of the campaign.
Luctonians secured their ninth league victory with a comfortable 39 run win over higher-placed Droitwich. In-form Steve Heathcote was the mainstay of Luctonians' 225-6 with a sparkling 97. Australian all-rounder Michael Jeh (50 not out), Duncan Platford (33) and Adam Last (29) also joined in to flay the Droitwich attack. Despite a valiant 71 from Wesley Euly and 30 from G Ford, Luctonians always had the upper hand. Spinner Mike Scott (4-42) and Jeh (3-72) both performed well with the ball as Droitwich were dismissed in the 45th over for 186.
