ALL the usual favourites - plus a great deal more. That's the promise from the organisers of the 33rd annual Bromyard Gala, writes RICHARD WILSON.

Now regarded as one of the best outdoor summer events in the region, the gala started life as a traditional county show but has grown over the years in size and ambition.

Committee member John Wilkins revealed some of the attractions to The Hereford Times this week.

"We've got the normal steam engine rally and vintage vehicles but also more modern events, such as a team of motocross performers and the Essex dog display team," he said.

Rare breeds and heavy horses will be on show as will 'old-time' fairground attractions.

And the highlight of the Saturday afternoon will be the grand carnival parade, which moves through the town and ends in the gala field.

A wide range of events has been organised for the week leading up to the extravaganza, including a donkey derby, gala queen competition and a bath race through the streets.

This year's event takes place on the weekend of Saturday July 1 and Sunday July 2 at the Birchyfields site on the Hereford Road, Bromyard.

Tickets will cost £6 for adults, £4.50 for OAPs and £2 for children.
