BRECON and Radnor Liberal Democrats have chosen a seasoned campaigner to succeed MP Richard Livsey.
Councillor Roger Will-iams, a farmer from Llanfilo, near Brecon, has been selected as the prospective parliamentary candidate for the constituency. Mr Livsey is retiring from the House of Commons at the next general election.
Commenting after the final selection meeting, with the results of the proportional 'one member one vote' election declared, Mr Livsey said: "Roger Williams is a very wise choice as prospective candidate.
"The Liberal Democrat membership was faced with a shortlist of four exceptional candidates and had to make a difficult choice. It has chosen a man with a superb track record of service to the people of Mid-Wales, Powys and Brecon and Radnorshire in particular."
Mr Williams said: "I am delighted and honoured to have been selected by the members in Brecon and Radnorshire to be their prospective parliamentary candidate.
"It is a heavy responsibility, which I cherish. I look forward to building on the work which I have been doing for many years in this area on the issues that really matter to local people - a better deal for public services; a better deal for pensioners, the disabled and disadvantaged; real investment in the rural economy and fighting for the most vulnerable in our society.''
