AN inquest has heard how a Hereford man who drank to dull the pain in his eyes died after a fall at home.
Lionel Trevor Griffiths, aged 63, who lived at Kilvert Road, Newton Farm, suffered from a painful condition that caused his eyes to water and bleed.
He had been drinking at the time of his death and was discovered days later on April 3 after he had fallen on his bedroom floor.
Recording a verdict of accidental death, coroner David Halpern said: "We cannot pin-point the medical cause of death as he had died some time earlier with the gas fire on and the conditions led to the pathologist not being able to find the cause of death.
"We have heard he drank more than was good for him, possibly because of his eye condition. He often fell and it seems he had too much to drink on this occasion"
Mr Griffiths was discovered by his cousin, Margaret Stokes from Peterchurch, during a regular visit.
