PARISH COUNCIL - The annual parish assembly, annual meeting and ordinary meeting of Ewyas Harold Group Parish Council were held in the Recreation Ground Pavilion, with Councillor Peter Jinman in the chair. Four members of the public and Herefordshire councillor J B Williams were also present.
At the parish assembly, the clerk presented the financial report which was approved. The chairman presented his report and thanked the clerk, Ray Rose, Councillor Williams and all fellow councillors for their help during the past year. He also praised retiring councillors, Robin Michael (Ewyas Harold), Elizabeth Price (Rowlestone) and Bill Lloyd (Llancillo) for their services to the local community and the council. The chairman received reports from Councillor Elizabeth Overstall on the Millennium photographic project and from John Middle on the progress of the village centre improvement scheme. Both reports were approved. No matters were raised for public forum debate.
The recent election was not contested. At the annual meeting, Councillor Jinman was re-elected chairman, with Councillor John Middle again appointed vice-chairman. There were now vacancies for parish council representatives in the parishes of Ewyas Harold, Rowlestone and Llancillo, to be filled by co-option in the near future.
During the ordinary meeting, it was agreed the clerk should attend a CALC course on book-keeping. The ROSPA report on the recreation ground was satisfactory, with only minor matters to rectify. It was agreed to suggest Prill Orchard as the name for the Prill Farm development. Quotes would be sought for the trench work involved in the village centre improvements work. The clerk presented his financial report, which was approved. It was decided to approach Herefordshire Council about the unsatisfactory road cleansing performance. A contractor had now been found for the work on the extension of the play area in the recreation ground. After a number of complaints, grass cutting on the main field would be more closely monitored. Robin Michael, with knowledge of football and cricket club requirements, was being asked to liaise with the parish council on this matter. Attention was also drawn to the length of grass in the picnic area and the clerk would arrange for it to be cut. Councillor Addis drew attention to recent haphazard parking in Elm Green road. The clerk would discuss this with P C Les Wilkinson. The next parish council meeting would be held at the Memorial Hall on July 4.
