OXFAM KNITTERS - Knighton Oxfam Knitters have packed their first consignment of blankets and tops from their new venue -- St Edward's Close Social Room. Mercy Griffiths, of Abbeycwmhir, collected them ready for packing and delivery to any part of the world in need of Oxfam assistance. The consignment consisted of 13 full-size blankets and 38 tops. Many hours of knitting from Thursday and home knitters were represented in the bags that left. These were in addition to the Christmas consignment of 20 blankets and 23 tops, bringing the total since 1995 to 109 blankets and 399 tops.
DEVELOPMENT OFFICER - The question as to whether Knighton's new position of development officer should be a 12-hour per week part-time job or a 37-hour full-time job caused a lively debate at a recent meeting of Knighton Town Council's business committee. The position was originally to be for 12 hours a week, jointly funded by Menter Powys, an agency of Powys County Council, and the town council. The job had been advertised and applications received, but the Welsh Development Agency had then suggested it was willing to fund further hours if the town council would change the job description for the post to include additional areas of responsibility. Eventually, the business committee agreed to draft an enhanced role for the proposed position and to apply to the developmen tagency for additional funding, and to invite Councillor John Thompson, councillor, to speak to the committee.
RAFFLE - A total of £224 was raised at the raffle organised by the women's section of the Royal British Legion.
TABLE SALE - In spite of poor weather and other attractions, a table sale at Knighton Community Centre raised nearly £80 for the running costs of the centre. Helpers for the centre were Christine Branford, Gina Lynch and Kevin Kell.

Jean Kilby, Mona Brown, Shirley Moorhouse, Olive Waters and Vera Wood agreed to represent Tref-y-Clawdd WI at the county quiz. Members made further arrangements for the County Show. Jean Coulthard thanked Shirley Moorhouse, Olive Waters and Jean Kilby for presenting the resolutions to the meeting.
