ANNUAL MEETING - A lively annual meeting followed a Sellack bowls session at Sellack Hall. Chairman Ivor Skyrme presented a resume of the past year where overall the club had fared fairly well. He mentioned skipper John Morriss' enthusiasm and his selection in mid winter for the county, and the county team ever-present, Sellack club teenager Karen Skyrme. The retiring committee was thanked for fulfilling its duties and bringing the club through its third year, and what was the initial year of the new Herefordshire Short Mat Bowls Association. Joint treasurers, Gladys and Karen Skyrme, presented the accounts, which showed the club was in a healthy position even though a slight loss had resulted over 12 months. A presentation was made to the Sellack 'player of the year'. Last year's winner and this year's runner-up, Karen Skyrme, presented skipper John Morriss with his winners trophy. Chairman Ivor Skyrme, secretary Jean Morriss and joint treasurers Gladys and Karen Skyrme were all re-elected, as was skipper John Morriss. A new position as a committee member was filled by James Campbell. The hall's heating and the imminent procedure of new flooring at the hall, after initial work by the bowls club to get things rolling, was discussed. A social evening which included refreshments and home-made cakes concluded the event. Weston-under-Penyard would visit Sellack Hall on Friday, June 16, and a return match at the Weston bowls headquarters had been arranged for Sunday, July 2. Bowlers would all be pleased that Helen Davies was the new Weston chairperson and back after an absence due to the loss of her husband, Norman. Together, they did much to progress the game in Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.
