Hereford Rowing Club emerged with eight victories when they hosted the Hereford City Regatta on Monday as the sun shone on a packed timetable of events.

The club's women scullers stamped their mark on the day and took victory in five of the six races contested, while there were also wins in the women's senior 3 coxed fours, the men's novice sculls and the men's senior 1 coxed fours.

Helen Phillips took the women's elite single sculls by two-and-a-half lengths from Stourport and in the senior 2 event Serena Crump comfortably beat Mortlake Anglian & Alpha.

Julie Gray continued the run with a convincing senior 3 category victory, while Tracey Matthews and Sally Daw beat Stratford-upon-Avon by two lengths in the women's senior 2 double sculls.

And the fifth sculling title was assured when Kelly Lloyd overcame Beccy Young by two lengths in an all-Hereford final of the women's novice sculls.

The men's novice sculls final was similarly contested by two members of the city club and, in a tight race, Rob Francis pipped Ali Campbell by half a length.

The women's senior 3 coxed four team of Heidi Lea, Nicki Fitzgerald, Alex Looke and Claire Hall, plus cox Jenni Honey, dominated the event and triumphed easily over Lea RC in the final.

Harvey Griffiths, Darren Williams, Pat Griffiths and Peter Clarke, coxed by Emma Wall, completed the winning streak with victory in the men's senior 1 coxed fours by three-quarters of a length from Grosvenor.

Hereford duo Felicity Peters and Ros Moore were runners-up to Evesham RC in the women's junior-15 double sculls, while the city club took second position to Leander in the elite coxless fours.

There was some close and exciting racing in the Mercedes-Benz sprint eights, with victory for Worcester RC in the men's race and a win for London club Twickenham in the women's event.

And two Worcester RC crews fought it out in the final of the premier coxed fours event for the West of England Challenge Cup, which ensured that the club carried off the trophy.

Hereford sculler Serena Crump preceded her victory at the City Regatta with a two-length win at Worcester in the senior 2 event on Saturday.

Fellow club members Sally Daw and Tracey Matthews also enjoyed success at the Monmouth Regatta as part of a composite eight who won the senior 1 eights competition.
