LEOMINSTER hockey club goalkeeper Nerys Hamlett made her debut for Wales under-21 side on Monday in a 5-3 defeat to their England counterparts in Cardiff.
Hamlett, an 18-year-old A-Level student at John Masefield High School in Ledbury, played the first half of the match, which was used as a trial for the Welsh side's forthcoming trip to Ireland.
Exams mean that Hamlett will not feature in the Irish tour from June 23-26, where her country will meet England, Scotland and Ireland in the Home Countries competition.
But she does have the chance to earn a place in the under-21 squad who travel to July's European Championships in Germany, with the next Welsh training sessions on June 17-18.
It was a busy weekend for the keeper, who played for Herefordshire in the National Women's Championships in Cannock on Saturday before travelling to Cardiff for the under-21 game.
Hamlett has also been awarded a place at the West Midlands Hockey Academy and has previously been involved with the Wales under-18 and West of England squads.
