ROBERT Rock broke the professional course record at Burghill Valley GC with a winning score of 66 in the Midland Region PGA Pro-Am Tournament for teams of four.
Rock, of Swingers Driving Range in Lichfield, Staffordshire, led Hereford Garrison team to victory with a combined score of 16 under the par of 71.
Earlier in the competition, which attracted 30 top Midlands professionals, Garry Mercer, of Sedgley, had equalled his own record of 67.
Burghill moved into the fifth round of the Mail on Sunday team knockout with a 2-1 away win at Oswestry. Dave Marcer and Neil Crockett won their matches, and Gareth Watkins birdied the final hole to gain the decisive half which took his team into the next round.

Host club member Pat Fletcher took the senior ladies' open with 36 stableford points, two clear of Sylvia Short from Redditch, who was a further two points ahead of Anne Binns of Habberley. Kington's Janet Pennell took the gross prize.

nJohn Collins took Summerhill's Greystone Cup on a card countback from youngster Tyrone Metcalfe after both players had posted nett 68s. Paul Turner carded 70 for third place.

n Des Davies and Ken Matthews will go forward to represent Belmont in the regional finals of the Famous Grouse foursomes after posting a nett 71 in the club qualifying event. Mel and John Bennion were second on 73, and Kevin Gallagher and Stan Smith third with 74.
Gregg Morgan scored 142 (70,72) for third place in the Shropshire and Herefordshire Youth Championships at Chesterton Valley.

n The Shropshire and Herefordshire under-16 team failed to celebrate a clothing sponsorship from Sun Valley with a victory when they went down 4-2 in the annual challenge match against a strong Herefordshire GC team at Wormsley.
