VILLAGE traditions, maintained for more than 200 years, are brought vividly to life in Fownhope at the beginning of June.
As part of its Millennium year, the south Herefordshire community's annual Heart of Oak celebrations promise to be bigger and better than ever with a wealth of attractions over the weekend.
A Festival of Flowers will provide a colourful backdrop for the three days, with St Mary's church filled with fantastic flora every day, accompanied at various times by organ recitals, bell-ringing and maypole-dancing.
The centrepiece for the weekend, however, will be the Fownhope Heart of Oak Society Club Walk.
The procession of members, carrying sticks decorated with flowers, is a hugely popular spectacle and this year will be led by the Drybrook and District Silver Band.
Another highlight of the weekend is the Green Man Gala Concert on Friday June 2 in St Mary's Church, featuring the Talgarth Male Voice Choir, while Andy Masefield and his Jazz Band will provide some laid-back summertime sounds on the recreation field on Saturday June 3.
Other attractions, meanwhile, include the Grand Dance in the Memorial Hall on June 3, the Festival Eucharist in St Mary's Church and a barbecue to round off proceedings at Stone House on Sunday June 4.
