A HEREFORDSHIRE village crib team have become national champions with victory in the team pairs knockout competition at the British Cribbage Championships in Bridlington.
It was a case of 10th-time lucky for the Three Horseshoes Inn side from Little Cowarne who had competed nine times over five years in the various events that make up the British Championships.
Their previous best was last year when they earned a semi-final place but they eclipsed that performance this year in the 64-team tournament with six wins en route to the title.
And it was a family affair for the side who were represented by team captain Les Jones and his brother Dave, Eric Tomkins and daughter Tina, plus Gerald Cooke and Bill Twinberrow.
All six collected trophies and the team received £1,000 in prize money for taking the top spot.
The Three Horseshoes also won the Burley Gate Crib League title, while Twinberrow took the mixed doubles title with his niece and then went on to claim the singles title.
A fourth league crown was assured when they beat the Rose and Lion, of Bromyard, in the final of the knockout cup.
