THE life and times of Herefordshire are set to be immortalised in an innovative photographic project which will become a snapshot of people and places at the turn of the Millennium.
Local photographic student Anthony Evans has been invited to spend almost a year capturing the nature and diversity of people who make up the Herefordshire community in the year 2000.
Diverse range
Hereford Museum has commissioned the project, called 'A Picture of Ourselves' which is sponsored by The Jessops Group Ltd, and which is scheduled to go on show between May 26 and July 8 next year before it tours the county.
"The important thing to note about the project is that we don't want photographs of the rich and famous in the county," said Claudia Hart, the council's community heritage access officer.
"Anyone who lives in Herefordshire is a potential subject for a photograph. We're looking for as diverse a range of individuals as possible to represent the enormous variety of lifestyles, occupations and interests within Herefordshire," she added.
The black and white photographs will be displayed along with a short anecdote from the person in the picture relating their views of the particular part of Herefordshire in which they have been photographed.
Anthony, who lives at Bromyard and is a mature student at Hereford College of Art and Design, has already begun taking his millennial snapshots of the county and will continue until this time next year.
"All we need now are more people to get in touch if they feel they would like to be photographed or would like to nominate someone who they feel fits the bills," said Claudia.
Anyone with suggestions can get in touch with the project by contacting Anthony on 01885 483229 or by e-mail at www.anthonyevans@hotmail.com, or by contacting Claudia on 01432 260692, by fax on 01432 342492, or via e-mail at chart@herefordshire.gov.uk.
