SWIFTS rounded of an excellent first season with a trip to Edgar Street to play Leominster Minors in the final of the Windsor Jones Imperial Cup.
Ledbury SWIFTS U9s 0, LEOMINSTER MINORS 3
The match, played in front of a large crown was closer than the scoreline reflects and it was Swifts who held the upper hand for the majority of the match.
Swifts started well but could not find the opening goal and they were rocked back midway through the half when Leominster, the League's top goalscorers, scored twice in as many minutes.
Swifts responded well forcing a series of corners just before half-time but to no avail.
The second half continued the same with Swifts pressing from the start and they made a number of changes to try and bring a goal.
As they pushed forward Swifts goalkeeper Alister Williams was forced to make a couple of good saves. Joshua Emery had a couple of long-range efforts well-saved and Thomas Boyle broke through but saw his effort roll just wide.
Leominster grabbed their third goal right at the end but Swifts can look back on a performance in which they did themselves proud.
WESTBURY U16s 0,
LEDBURY SWIFTS U16s 3
SWIFTS played some good football on a difficult pitch and created several chances but there was no score at half-time.
Ledbury were more determined in the second half and opened the scoring through Neil Gardiner. They were then reduced to ten men when Nick Stockley was red-carded but this made them even more determined and they went further ahead when Gardiner pulled the ball back for James Dean to score from 18 yards out.
Gardiner then completed a fine display by scoring Swift's third goal right on full time.
LEDBURY SWIFTS U16s 3,
DINES GREEN U16s 2
IN a very physical encounter, but important match for Swifts' championship hopes, there were few chances in the first half although Swifts received a setback when for the second time in as many games a Ledbury player was sent off.
Ledbury began the second half with more purpose and opened the scoring when Neil Gardiner crossed for James Dean to head home. Then good play by Nick Stockley ended with him being brought down in the penalty box, he brushed himself down before making it 2-0 from the spotkick.
Ledbury went 3-0 in front with another James Dean goal before letting Dines Green come back with two late goals.
