BAPTIST CHAPEL - Over the past 12 months more than £10,000 had been raised towards a new building for the children's and youth work. Events held included an exhibition, bonfire party, a Moody and Sankey musical and a coffee morning. The most recent, a Saturday sale organised by the Sunday School, and car wash arranged by the young people, raised more than £350. Thanks go to everyone who had helped. The next fund-raising event will be a repeat Moody and Sankey musical evening to be held on May 26 in Longtown Village Hall at 7.30pm. Admission will be £3. For more information or tickets contact Mrs J James on 01981 240816.
MEMORIAL HALL - Two committee meetings had been held, one business and the other working, with the chairman, Robin Michael, John Middle, treasurer, and Jenny Davies, secretary, and others representing organisations in the area. Matters relating to the music and entertainment licence were dealt with and many necessary things done in making the hall suitable for all bookings. Members heard lettings continued to be very good. The question of making some alteration to the car park was discussed and the matter would be considered later. The committee photograph will be taken at the annual meeting on May 30. Some insurance points were raised and would be considered later. There will be no hall meeting on May 23. The annual meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 30, at 7.30pm, and the agenda will include: the committee's annual report, annual financial statement, and to approve the nominations of parish representatives.
