GAS pipeline company Transco has started work on a £16,000 project to replace the gas main in Kyrle Street and Trenchard Street, Ross-on-Wye.
The six-week project involves replacing 140 metres of the old metal pipe with a modern plastic variety.
The new pipe will help guarantee supplies in forthcoming winters and cut down on maintenance work.
Dave Payne, Transco manager in charge of the project, said: "We have been working with the local council to co-ordinate this work.
"We will be using traffic lights through the project to help maintain the flow of traffic. We would like to apologise for any convenience this work may cause."
The work is to be carried out on behalf of Transco by Morrison Construction Ltd.
