Hereford Open Door could soon find itself homeless unless new premises can be found, writes JON LAND.
The charity, which offers help to homeless and needy people, is in danger of closing later this year after being told its arrangement with Hinton Youth Centre would be terminated.
A spokesman explained: "Sadly there are now plans by the council to change the ways in which the Hinton Youth Centre is run and funded. As a consequence, we have been notified that our arrangement at the centre will be terminated in September.
"We wish to continue our work, which we believe is a valuable and, unfortunately, necessary service in the community and we therefore desperately need to find alternative premises."
Public relations officer for Herefordshire Council, John Burnett, said the important work of Open Door was acknowledged and the council was working with its members to try and find a suitable, alternative location.
"Herefordshire Council originally gave Hereford Open Door temporary accommodation at the youth club for six months. Since then, we have extended their stay in the building," he explained.
"But we are now considering the building's use in the future and we have told the group that it is not possible to extend their stay in the centre."
