KEVIN Gwillim picked up the top trophy at the annual Westfields FC presentation evening, held at the Graftonbury Garden Hotel, when he was awarded the first team player of the year accolade.

Gwillim's performances for the side, who are in the Premier Division of the Banks's Brewery West Midlands League, led joint manager Sean Edwards to call him a "role model".

Edwards said: "Kevin has bounced back from major injuries to be a superb player with all the right attributes on and off the field."

Derek Craddock took the Golden Boot award with 20 goals in Westfields' last season at their Rotherwas ground.

Steve Berry was the club's Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division player of the year, while Ben Vale claimed the equivalent award for the Hereford-shire League Division 1 team.

Club chief executive Andy Morris praised the work of the Sean Edwards and Clive Harris, the West Midlands League side's management team, in what he called a "challenging year".

Morris said: "Our time at Rotherwas has been superb - we have progressed well up the non-league ladder.

"Our planning application for Moor House will be heard on May 25 and the future of the club rests with councillors and planners. If we get planning permission we can build a ground of quality, a base, a future."
