HEREFORDSHIRE golf star David Park will compete against some of the top names in golf at the newest stop on the European Tour next month - less than an hour away from his home!
The 1999 Compaq European Grand Prix winner will face the likes of Ryder Cup captains Mark James, Seve Ballesteros and Sam Torrance and former US Masters champion Ian Woosnam in a competition for a £750,000 prize fund at the largest golf event ever held in Wales.
The Wales Open is being staged on June 8-11 at The Celtic Manor Resort, near Newport, which recently completed a £100m expansion programme and now offers a 400-room, 32-suite luxury hotel, a delegation centre, 40 function rooms, four restaurants, three championship golf courses and two health clubs.
The PGA European Tour event is being played over the 7,403-yard, par 72 Wentwood Hills course - a great challenge for players and a terrific spectator course.
