ROGER Moran will decide this week whether to continue driving the underdeveloped Atol T95 in his quest for the 2000 British Hill Climb Champion-ship, or revert to his well tried Pilbeam MP72.
The Orleton-based 1997 champion drove the Atol to win awards for best time of the day and the unlimited racing car class at Harewood, near Leeds, on Sunday.
But Moran's best time of 55 seconds over the 1,090-yard course was nearly five seconds slower than his time set in the Pilbeam last year.
And at Barbon, in Cumbria, last Saturday, Moran's best efforts could only secure seventh place in both championship run-offs, with times of 21.93 and 22.15 over the 890-yard dash.
Deryk Young, from Yarkhill, raced his Pilbeam MP58 to sixth and fifth places at Barbon with times of 21.80 and 21.76 to overtake Moran in the championship standings.
Paul Benson made a strong debut with second and third places in the 2000cc production sports car class at Loton Park last weekend. The Leominster garage owner recorded times of 63.21 and 62.33 seconds on the testing 1,475-yard track.
lAuto Windscreens British Championship positions after six rounds: 1 David Grace (Brackley) 57 points, 2 Roy Lane (Warwick) 55, 3 Tim Coventry (Falmouth) 35, 4 Deryk Young (Yarkhill) 33, 5 Roger Moran (Orleton) 32.
