RETIRING town councillor Jimmy Waller has said Bromyard Town Council should be cut from 18 to no more than a dozen members.
Mr Waller has been a councillor for 40 years, but in all that time he said he had only fought one election.
"I don't think that is a very good reflection on the town," said Mr Waller, who said cutting the number of councillors would make elections more likely.
"It could make for much better elections and more enthusiasm for kicking people off," he said.
Other members felt that with increasing committee work, reducing the numbers would put too much of a burden on remaining councillors.
Coun Daphne Davies paid tribute to Coun Waller, Bromyard's first mayor, and three other retiring councillors, Ann Reece, Geoff Page-Jones and Roy Meddings.
