AN heroic dog-owner dived into the swollen River Lugg last weekend to rescue his two pet pooches from drowning.
Dave Kuegler from Presteigne was walking Fluffy and Del along the Withy Beds when the two dogs leapt into the water.
Before long they were struggling in the strong current and brave Dave decided to plunge into the raging torrent to save his beloved pets.
Fluffy had become stuck under a fallen tree but Dave managed to drag her to the bank. Del meanwhile was heading for a weir but his courageous owner plucked him to safety.
His wife Jan said: "If he hadn't jumped in Fluffy would definitely be dead. I was worried when Dave was in the water trying to get her as the current was lifting his feet up."
Both dogs have fully recovered from their ordeal.
