GARDEN SCHEME - As part of the National Garden Scheme, Batch Cottage, Almeley, home of Mr and Mrs Jeremy Russel, will be open to the public on Sunday and July 16, from 2pm until 6pm. Admission is £2 and children will be admitted free. There will be teas and a plant stall. It is regrettable that no dogs will be allowed.
EGG THROWING - In spite of very inclement weather, around 300 people enjoyed the fun on Spearmarsh Common on Easter Monday. In addition to an egg-throwing competition, there was a children's egg-hunt in the grounds of the primary school. To complete the programme, competitors took part in an egg-and-spoon race. Organiser Kath Stanley thanks her band of helpers, including the school staff, for its co-operation. £100 was raised for Almeley Primary School and it is hoped it will become an annual event.
SCHOOL - During the summer term, pupils at Almeley School will be continuing their Victorian celebrations, as well as learning about life in Victorian Almeley. On June 26, the school will be visiting the Dome.
