Hereford'S Jenny Spencer secured international selection for the Great Britain marathon kayak team by winning the second of the assessment races over the weekend.
Jenny, a Hereford Kayak Club junior lady, has earned the K1 slot to race in the World Cup event in Dilligan, Germany, in early June. She then hopes to go on to the World Championships in Canada in September.
Teenage Jenny, who earlier this year received the Hereford Times Ted Woodriffe Award for sport, won the second assessment race on the River Wey, near Guildford, over a tough 12-mile course which involved eight portages.
She finished in 1 hr 36 mins, five minutes faster than the second-placed junior in a time which would have given her third place in the senior event.
The Hereford paddler won the first assessment race in Milton Keynes in March.
