Wellington 7 Knighton 0

LEADING scorer Stuart Gwynne fired home a brilliant second-half hat-trick as Wellington swept away Knighton to carry off the Presteigne Otway Cup at the fourth time of asking.

In the Easter Monday final, played at Presteigne, they were always in control and took a two-goal interval lead through skipper Mark Fish and Pete Wallace.

After the break they cut loose and ran their Mid-Wales League opponents ragged with a superb display of crisp, attacking football. Gwynne, leading the line with great skill and awareness, registered a hat-trick of goals in quick succession, with substitute Kenny Styles and Wallace weighing in to complete the demolition.

l Wellington also claimed their place in the final of the Banks's Brewery West Midlands League Division 1 Cup with a comfortable 3-1 home win over Cannock in the second leg of the semi-final.

This gave them an aggregate 5-1 victory and a final against Herefordshire rivals Ledbury at a date and venue to be arranged.

Mark Cross gave them the ideal start when he thundered home a low cross from Stuart Gwynne in the fourth minute.

They continued to press and went further ahead on the half-hour when Gwynne collected a poor clearance and deftly lobbed the stranded keeper.

A third goal from Simon Edwards - a superb 30-yard drive - just before the interval effectively ended Cannock's hopes of an upset.

The visitors' aggressive tactics after the break incurred the wrath of the referee and they had a player dismissed for a second bookable late challenge.

Despite this they managed a late consolation goal as Wellington were content to sit back.
