AN American visitor was so struck by the spirituality of a border church that she sent £1,000 towards repairs.
The woman, from Connecticut, has helped push a £41,000 appeal launched by the Friends of St Mary's Church, Pilleth, past the half-way mark.
The money is needed to complete a restoration project. So far, there is around £21,000 in the pot. The rest needs to be raised by the autumn, so the friends and the PCC are busy looking for support and organising events.
These include a spring concert by Dolau Mixtures on April 28 at 7.30pm in the Assembly Rooms, Presteigne. Telephone 01547 560417 for tickets.
Then, on May 7, there will be a sponsored walk taking in Pilleth and Litton Hill. Anyone wanting to take part or help with fundraising should contact the friends on 01547 560272.
