Local people alerted Police to the dangerous trap at Warm Hill, Deep Dean, On Tuesday, April 18.

The wire had been stretched between trees at a height that would have been dangerous for passers-by and could have caused untold harm, particularly to cyclists and horse-riders, police said.

Sergeant Clive Edwards said: "The placing of these wires would appear to be a deliberate attempt to endanger unknown users of the paths. The public must be aware and take care."
