GWERNYFED produced a strong second-half performance to claim the Luctonians Floodlit Trophy with a 21-9 win over the holders, the host club's 2nd XV, at Mortimer Park.

Fly-half Jonathan Hern kicked three penalty goals to give Luctonians a 9-8 interval lead, but they had no answer to the second-half surge by Gwernyfed which produced 13 points without reply.

Luctonians took the honours in their annual sevens competition when they defeated county neighbours Ledbury 20-10 in a closely contested final.

There was some consolation for the losing finalists when their player Ollie Kaye scooped the player of the tournament award after scoring seven tries and producing some scintillating rugby.

Weather permitting some 600 youngsters, representing 16 clubs in five age groups from eight to 12, will take part in the Luctonians' annual Festival of Junior Rugby at Mortimer Park this Saturday, starting 10am.

l Hereford 2nd grabbed a 5-3 victory over Greyhound in the closing minutes of a friendly fixture.

The home side led for the most of the match through a first-half penalty from Mark Perkins.

Greyhound missed two further kicks before Jonathan Watkins ran in the only try of the game and the hosts were consigned to defeat when they squandered a fourth penalty.
