Colwall Womens Second hockey XI won their final Severn Division Three match of the season on Saturday to confirm their promotion as league champions.

BROCKWORTH II 0, COLWALL II 3

The side missed out on promotion last campaign being defeated in the last match of the season by a strengthened Brockworth II so this victory was all the sweeter.

Colwall made a nervous start on Saturday and goalkeeper Carol Ward was forced to make two excellent saves within the opening minutes.

Neither side really dominated the half but it was Colwall who took the lead with a wonderful passing movement that covered three quarters of the pitch. Jill Miles, Anna Stocker and Jemma Murchington twice, making telling passes before Emily Lloyd finally ran the ball past the stranded keeper into the net.

Skilful play by Emma Hirst then resulted in a second goal just before half time.

The second half belonged to a much more relaxed Colwall and the only surprise was that could only increase their goal tally by one. A well-timed and struck goal from Lesley Wood after yet another excellent lay-off from Jemma Murchington.

Throughout the season Colwall have shown outstanding team work, team spirit and at times have played some brilliant hockey and thoroughly deserve the league title losing just one game and drawing two.
