Hereford Railway Station is in line for a good-food award.

People who use the caf there still have a week to vote it into first place.

More than 4,000 people have already cast their vote for the Good Grub award in the Station of the Year 2000 competition.

Last year Lady Foley's Tea Room at Great Malvern Station took the title and this year Hereford is already a hot contender.

Passenger voting ends on April 30.

Stations with the most votes will be visited by connoisseurs from Rotary International who will spend three months sampling the menus, soaking up the atmosphere and ensuring vegetarians and children are well catered for.

Three finalists will be shortlisted for a second grilling and the winner will be announced in October.

Hereford's Quick Snack caf has already had one accolade from a customer saying that, in spite of it being a public holiday, staff catered for a large party, serving delicious food and drink for two hours.

The Good Grub competition is organised by Railtrack in association with Railnews and the Rotary International organisation.

People can vote online at www.railtrack.co.uk

Alternatively, they can pick up a leaflet at their nearest rail station.
