AN upbeat 'review' paints a positive picture of life at Herefordshire College of Art and Design.

A 10-strong team of inspectors from the Further Education Funding Council (FEFC) spent a week on site earlier this year.

Results revealed strengths in all curriculum areas, and student support. Particular praise was reserved for pass rates and progression into higher education.

The college's financial situation had also 'improved substantially' since the last inspection.

There were, however, areas requiring attention. Among these are an increase in basic skill support, IT and library facilities and dining/recreational accommodation.

Inspectors also commented on the need to monitor strategic objectives and student achievement and extend the use of target setting.

Principal Jude Freeman said she was 'greatly encouraged' by the grades.
