YOUNG riders from Barrs Court school were delighted with the results of their day at the Solihull Regional RDA Championships.

From a field of more than 50 competitors, Barrs Court students rode off with the honours in two classes.

In the Walk in the Country section, two students, Kirsty Waugh and Richard Hamblin, came first and second, qualifying them for the National Championships, which are due to be held at Hartpury College on July 24.

Meanwhile, Nathan Whitcomb, riding Jasper, finished in fourth place.

Kirsty and Richard also tied in first place in the dressage, with Leah Anderson and Nathan taking third and sixth place respectively.

Back in Herefordshire, a sponsored ride around the racecourse was relocated to RDA's Holme Lacy centre when rain threatened.

Eleven pupils from Hunderton School were among those taking part in the event, organised to mark the end of RDA week, an action-packed seven days featuring a barbecue at Jan and Harvey du Cros's Carey home, car boot sale and flag day all to raise awareness and funds.

Supporting the sponsored riders were 12 children from Years 5 and 6 at Holmer Primary School who created their own mounts to run a circuit of the course with gift vouchers awarded to the best hobby horse and the winner around the course.
