THE surprise result of the day occurred at Moccas where the home side made light work of chasing a Wormelow 2nd total of 188-6 in Division 3 of the Flint and Cook Marches League and passed their target with five wickets and four overs to spare.
This was their first league success since the May 19, 2004.
Colin Prothero led the run-chase and was there at the end on 62. He received good support from Tom Jaques and John Tooley who scored 36 and 35 respectively.
Earlier David Bannerman (68) was the mainstay of the Wormelow innings and Sam Charles played his part in the win with three wickets.
Ross recorded a narrow one-wicket away victory over local rivals Goodrich 2nd to keep the pressure on their rivals at the top of the division.
Andy Bevan, Chris Ball and Alan Marfell all completed half-centuries as Ross finished on 220-9, replying to the home team score of 219-9.
James O'Brien took two wickets for the losers to go with his undefeated top-score 70 in the first innings. Andrew Bevan took four wickets for Ross.
Leaders Kington 3rd marched on with an easy 110-run victory at Colwall 3rd.
Simon Williams (47) and Wayne Morgan (37) eased Kington to 177-9 and then Chris Lloyd took 4-22 to shoot out the home side for 67.
In Division 2, Hereford City were another side to break their duck with a four-wicket win over home team Marden.
Phil Chalkley (4-51) and S Hadapi (3-38) restricted the home team to 178-9, despite P Gale scoring 72, and Hadapi (39) also top-scored as the city side got home for the loss of six wickets.
Dean Smith starred with both bat and ball to lead Bartestree & Lugwardine to a comfortable eight-wicket away win over Luctonians 3rd.
He took 5-13 as the home team were dismissed for 115 and then scored 45 and shared an opening partnership of 75 with Steve Beach (35) to set the platform for the win. Aaron Treagus took 4-22 for the winners and Rob Harper scored 45 for Luctonians.
Monmouth 2nd thrashed home team Builth Wells by 10 wickets.
Idris Leonard and Dave Wilding both picked up three cheap wickets to dismiss Builth for 90 and Graham Hyde belted 61 off 35 balls as he and Andrew Smith knocked the runs off in 10.2 overs.
In Division 5, Luke Ledbury scored 63 and three batsmen were in the 40s as Bosbury piled on the runs at Bartestree 2nd.
The home side never threatened their target chasing 285-7 but at least kept the leaders in the field for the full 45 overs, finishing on 158-7.
Strollers won again, bowling out Eastnor 3rd for 100 to register a 78-run victory.
Skipper Richard Lerego led from the front to reach 50 before becoming one of leg-spinner John Taylor's five victims. Mark Powell also took 5-31, his best haul of the campaign, to ensure his side stayed on the winning trail.
