A RECORD 28 schools, comprising 800 children, took part in the county's biggest participant general sporting event - the 2005 Herefordshire Youth Games at Hereford Leisure Centre.
Organised by Herefordshire Council sports development officer Sarah Louise James and Jan Perridge, the Games embraced eight sports with gold, silver, bronze and fair play awards for each section.
As part of the Games, many schools took part in the Macmillan Mile which was sponsored by Maylord Shopping Centre and a cheque for £200 was presented to Ron Davies, of Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Eleven children from Barrs Court School ran the mile and Maylord gave them a special award of £250 for their Hydrosense Pool appeal fund.
