A Hereford family has paid tribute to a much-loved son and brother, who died in a crash in the early hours of Saturday.

Former Aylestone High School pupil Paul Goodwin, aged 18, was travelling out of Hereford on the A438 Ledbury Road when his car overturned at the Lugg Bridge in Lugwardine.

Paul, who was in his second year as an apprentice joiner, died at the scene.

Paul's mother and father, Christine and Gary Goodwin, along with his brothers James and Robby, spoke of the football loving, Manchester United fan in a family tribute.

"He grew to be a beautiful young man," they said

"Living and loving his life, having fun with his friends.

"Paul like many passed his driving test and found independence which has now been taken away.

"Our loss of Paul, words are inadequate to express, but our wish is that Paul's death makes others realise how precious life is."

Paul's blue Ford Fiesta hit a barrier and overturned before landing on its roof in the road. It is thought no other cars were involved.

Paramedics were called to the scene and tried to resuscitate him, as well as treating the car's three other passengers.

A man and a woman who had been sitting in the back of the car walked away from the wreckage. A girl, who was the front seat passenger, had to be taken from the car on a spinal board but is now making a good recovery at hospital in Birmingham.

Two fire engines from Hereford attended the accident and police closed the road for several hours to carry out an investigation.

Any witnesses to the accident are asked to call PC Tim Hargraves on 08457 444888.

Paul's funeral is due to take place at St Paul's Church in Tupsley, Hereford, at 11.15am on Wednesday, August 17.

Family flowers only, but donations in aid of the County Air Ambulance can be sent via Bayley Brothers, 17-19 Cotterell Street, Hereford.
