A COUNTBACK was needed to decide the best gross score at Hereford-shire GC Ladies' Open stableford with Karen Darby pipping Emma Harris to the prize after both had finished on 32 points.

The Chairman's Cup for the best nett score by a Herefordshire player was won by Glynne Hall with 41 points.

The competition was played off seven eighths handicap.

n Anita Dart won Kington Ladies Challenge Cup with 86-16-70, while Chris Hughes took the silver division with 87-12-75 and Audrey Philpott the bronze with 97-25-72.

n Jan du Cros' charity day at Burghill Valley was supported by 12 teams of four, who played off full handicap with the best two scores to count, and raised £1,040 for the British Horse Society.

Vicky Howells and Joan Dukes, who was cut two strokes after winning the Worcestershire Open with 43 points, continued their good form as members of the winning team.
