THERE was a tight finish to Herefordshire GC's Rutter Bowl four-ball better-ball medal competition with only one shot separating each of the top three places.

Kevin Bayliss and Dave Gwynne recorded a winning nett 60 and were followed by Roy Allen and Brian Matthews, 61, and Gerald Morris and Ken Wright, 62.

In matches with Ross-on-Wye, the club's A team won 5-1 away and the B team won 4-2 at home.

The A team defeated Belmont 4-0 and 15 holes up in the first leg of their Scratch League semi-final.

The outstanding performance in Herefordshire Seniors medal came from Barry Clark with a nett 65.

The six-round competition will decided by the best three performances and the leader is Trevor Flowers with a total of 122 points, just one point more than a large chasing pack.
