THE return of the cooler, milder evening air encouraged a good turnout for the Hereford Wheelers 14th 10-mile time trial last Thursday when 16 competitors raced against the clock on the Allensmore course.
Wheelers took the first three places with Jon Tetley achieving a personal best time on this course of 23 mins 52 secs for victory. First woman home was Abigail Hughes in a time of 27.42.
Top five places: 1 Jon Tetley 23.52, 2 Simon Geary 24.30, 3 Chris Hughes 24.36, 4 Peter Ding 24.53, 5 Paul Tomkinson 25.53.
Five Hereford Wheelers also took part in the Cardiff 100 Milers CC Open 50-mile time trial at Abergavenny. This event incorporated the South Wales Veteran Age group Championships.
Jon Tetley achieved an excellent first time attempt at this distance of 2 hrs 1 min 22 secs and was a member of the overall winning team with Simon Geary, 2-2.27, and Peter Murrieri, 2-2.50. Murrieri and Gordon Butler both won their respective Age Group championship events. Butler finished in 2-9.12 - 40.49 faster than his veteran standard.
