COUNTY tetrathlon teams have been in the medals after success at the Senior Novice Area 9 qualifier at West Littleton, Chippenham.

The sport requires four disciplines, shooting, swimming, running and riding, and Ledbury Hunt Pony Club's team are off to the national championships at Moreton Morell in Warwickshire this weekend after team and individual success

Jack Harper won the senior boys' novice class and qualified as an individual for the nationals. He was also a member of the mixed team, with Penny Carless, Jenni Clements and Jenny O'Toole, who won their class.

The three girls won the team prize in the novice qualifier with Carless winning the individual senior novice award. Clements won an award for the best swim in her class while O'Toole had the highest score for shooting.

The club's junior team of Jess Savidge, Anna Bird and Ashlea White won their competition with Savidge winning first overall and Bird finishing fourth.

Hilary Barfoot-Saunt, who organises the training and events for the Ledbury tetrathlon teams had plenty to celebrate, as did her counterpart at South Hereford and Ross Harriers branch, Audrey Turner.

Her 12-and-under team of Rhiannon Kearns, Lucy Turner, Joanna Dillon and Darcey Baynham won their competition and were placed third, fourth, sixth and eighth respectively with consistently high scores through the four phases.

They were the only team to achieve four clear rounds in the cross-country phase, following up a recent success at Taunton where they won the branch competition at the recent Inter-Area championship.

In a younger age-group, Tilly Jewel was awarded best run on her way to first place as an individual while Bob Cameron finished third individually in the junior boys' division.
