REDUNDANT farm buildings at Bishop's Frome could be converted into craft workshops.

The old buildings, which are next to the Hop Pocket Craft Centre, are no longer needed because of the decline in hop farming and would provide small workshops for local craftsmen.

"The hop store is redundant because I don't grow hops for the breweries anymore because of the price," said former hop farmer John Pudge.

"I only grow a few to sell as hop garlands in the craft shop,"

Mr Pudge has submitted a planning application to Herefordshire County Council to convert the hop store and other redundant buildings, including some old railway huts.

The 20-25 new workshops would expand the Hop Pocket Craft Centre and provide jobs.

If the application is successful Mr Pudge will apply for a Redundant Farm Building Grant. Building work could start next March.

The first workshops would be available for rent from May.
