Beautifully-kept open spaces and litter-free streets have helped Dymock to win a coveted award in a countywide competition.
The village beat off stiff competition to achieve top place in the new village category of the Bledisloe Cup competition, organised by the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England.
Judges made a tour of the village in July, visiting sights including St Mary's churchyard, the war memorial, village green and shop and Post Office.
They were particularly impressed with the lack of litter, cleanliness and floral displays in the village.
"We're delighted, it's the first time we've won the award since 1973," said campaign organiser Dorothy Brooke. "It has cleaned up the village and made people look at things in a different way. Lots of people got involved in helping out, it's really brought the community together."
Representatives from the village will be presented with a trophy at an awards ceremony in September.
