HISTORY GROUP - Members of the newly formed Eardisley History Group have finished their first publication entitled Eardisley, its houses and their residents, thanks to past transcription work by the late Margaret Hall, who lived at Arboyne House, also former village resident David Gorvett who now lives at Leominster, for his foreword. Edited by the group's Malcolm Mason the book is dedicated to the memory of the village's last resident vicar, the Rev Jennifer Pollock. Priced at £8, it has a map showing the location of the 46 houses described in the text, and drawn by John Hawes. He was also responsible for the drawings of houses that illustrate the 1841-1901 census returns which are such an important feature of the book. For architectural descriptions of the houses, the group has called upon Duncan James, of Insight Historic Buildings Research, and the dendrochronology research was conducted by Dr Ian Tyres, of Sheffield University. There are the contributions including recollections, archive material, photographs and oral history of nearly 30 of Eardisley's villagers. For further details telephone Malcolm Mason on 01544 327601.
