Carterton 0 Pegasus Juniors 1

PEGASUS made an excellent start to their GLS Hellenic League Premier Division campaign with their first win at Carterton for several seasons.

The home side finished in sixth place in the division last season but were unable to break down a determined Pegasus defence, underlining the strides made by the city club, with an average age of less than 21, since a poor start to last season.

Pegasus opened well and grabbed the game's decisive goal with just eight minutes played.

David Hart gained possession deep in his own half and passed to Anthony Robbins who advanced before firing in a shot which was blocked by a home defender.

Last season's top scorer Chris Mortlock seized on the rebound and smashed the ball into the top corner of the net from 18 yards.

Carterton then failed with a series of chances to level the scores as Pegasus keeper Jamie Hales showed good form.
