TWO young Herefordshire horsemen have been proving their skills on the polo lawns of Cowdray Park, Sussex.

Charlie Bulmer and Ed Jefferson, who are both members of the North Hereford Hunt branch of the Pony Club, teamed up with Toby Smith and Matt Evetts, of North Cotswold, to win the Langford final at the 3C Pony Club Championships.

Eighteen-year-old Bulmer, who has been riding seriously since he was eight, embraced the chance to take up polo at Rugby School while Jefferson, who is two years younger and from Much Marcle, attends Malvern College.

After winning three matches to qualify for the final section, the combined North Hereford/Cotswold team just kept on winning to reach the final with the home club's Cowdray Blue side.

All square entering the final of the three chukkas, the combined side took the lead through Evetts before two fine goals from Smith consolidated their win.
