IN contrast with the difficulties currently being experienced by the Bulmers club, two other county bowls clubs have met with much better fortunes in their redevelopment plans.

St Martin's relocation to a new site 150 yards from their current base behind the now-demolished Greyhound Dog public house as part of the Asda-Belmont development appears to be going without a hitch.

St Martin's vacate their green next Monday and work is due to start on the new green and clubhouse during the winter with a view to being ready for the start of next season on April 24.

"The current clubhouse has had to be vacated but the developers have provided us with two very comfortable temporary changing rooms," said club member Frank Harwood.

"We have had excellent co-operation from Asda and the developers and we are very happy with the way things are going.

"The new green will be about 150 yards from the current one. It will be a 36 square metre green, within the national guidelines, and we shall also have 32 dedicated car parking spaces. We are hoping for a very good lease."

The club have applied for a lottery grant towards the new clubhouse which is expected to have some community use. Planning permission will also be submitted for floodlighting for the new green.

Weobley Bowls Club, who have been playing all their games away from home since 2002 after losing their base at the Red Lion Hotel, also look all set to have their own facility for next year.

"We are still on target for our green in 2006," said club secretary Margaret White. "There have been a few unforeseen delays but we are hopeful of further progress shortly."
