Leominster clinched the Nash Rocks Bowls League title with a narrow home win over St Martin's in their penultimate game.

Rink honours were shared but Leominster got home by four shots.

Leominster's rink skipped by Brain Cade picked up an eight-shot victory but this was matched by Jim Knowles rink for St Martins.

The match was won by P Hall's rink for Leominster with a seven-shot margin that could not be matched by the St Martin's rink skipped by their captain Stephen Booth who won by three shots.

Leominster have lost only once this season and will set a new league record if they go unbeaten in their last fixture. Kington's record of only two losses was set last year.

Meanwhile, the battle for the runners-up slot will go to the last matches to be played by Kington and Kingsland.

In the critical match week played between the two clubs, Kingsland pulled off an excellent home win by taking five rinks out of six.

Only J Bathurst's rink for Kington prevented a clean sweep when they picked up the best winning margin of the evening with a 30-15 shot victory.

Their result could well have a major bearing on the final placings as Kingsland's victory left the rivals level on points. Kington's hold on second place could well depend on shot difference at the final count.

Previously, St Martin's moved up to sixth place with a useful win against Wellington who have had a disappointing season.

Hay also moved up a place when they beat Weobley, but Weobley still have two games to play and could climb to fourth place.

Results: Leominster 75, St Martin's 71; Kingsland 128, Kington 110; St Martin's 86, Wellington 70; Weobley 63, Hay 89.
