SIX new records were set in a British Hill Climb Championship meeting during a three-day extravaganza at Shelsley Walsh.

A record crowd were bathed in sunshine to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the speed hill climb during Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Martin Groves set an outright hill record of 23.77 seconds, while Robert Kenrick, Ash Mason, Roy Standley, Rob Stevens and Sue Young set other landmarks.

Cars from all eras took to the hill on Sunday with Tony Shut driving the new ten-day old Lotus Track Day car while Nic Man lowered his own sports car record in his self-built Mannic Beattie 4wd.

Ledbury driver Barrie Lines, who was driving his own Pilbeam MP43/1 during the three-day event making eight runs, said: "This event has put hill climbing on a new level. It was a marvellous weekend and the crowds were unbelievable. Many people that spoke to me had never been to a hill climb before but were astonished by how open and friendly everyone was.

"On behalf on the drivers, I would like to thank all the people who turned up and I am sure many will be back again."
